Department of physics

The Department of Physics has been in existence from the time the college started as an intermediate college in 1948. The Department has spacious and well equipped laboratories, and has experienced and dedicated faculty members. Post graduate course has been started from the academic year 2008-09. Students passing out of our college with Physics as one of the optional subject are getting good jobs in Government/Public/Private Enterprises and are spread all over the world.

Thrust Areas of Research: The thrust areas of research in the department include Radiation physics, Nuclear physics, Atmospheric physics, Condensed matter physics, Crystallography and Science and Spirituality. Three teachers have taken up Minor Research Projects. They are publishing the results of their research work in Conferences, National / International conferences, Workshops and Magazines. They have also guided MPhil Scholars.

Significant Achievements of the Department/Honours for Faculty: Starting of the post graduation course is the significant achievement of the department. The department has established a good laboratory for P.G. with modern apparatus in a very short time. It has also set up a computer lab for PG students with internet facility.
The faculty members are recognized by other institutions and local bodies. Dr. Ramegowda has been honoured by the district N.C.C. Forum in the year 2008-09. Dr. Sreepad has been honoured by Hoysala Karnataka sangha of Hassan in the year 2006-07, Geetha Gnana Yagna Samithi of Arkalgud in the year 2007-08 and Taluk Rajyotsava award in the year 2008-09. Sri N G Shiva Prasad has received the Award of excellence in teaching for the year 2006-07 by Career Launcher at RV College of Engineering, Bangalore.

  4. Science and Spirituality by H R Sreepad in collaboration with an organization called `VISHIST`
    having headquarters at Doddamudawadi, Kanakapura taluk, Ramanagar Dist and a branch at Mysore.
  5. Studies on the distribution and behavior of natural radionuclides in the environmental samples by Sri N G Shivaprasad.
  6. Studies on the airborne Radon and its daughters’ concentration and hence the dose assessment to the general public by Sri G V Ashok.
