Department of botany

The Department of Botany was established in 1969-70. Smt. Janaki is handling the entire department & is NAAC Coordinator. The department has one laboratory with attached museum. There are about 300 plant specimens preserved in formalin. Green house is maintained by the department with many medicinal, orchids and ornamental plants. Students are assessed continuously throughout the semester by conducting seminars, test, quiz, by giving assignments and making them to do some field work in practical classes. After the graduation students have wide range of opportunities. Some of them go for higher education such as MSc, MBA, B.Ed, etc and some of them take competitive examinations conducted by state government, and central government. The department of Botany conducts special classes and seminars by inviting experts in the subject. In the seminar and other activities students are given more opportunities to expose to the academic area. combination.

Thrust Areas of Research: Plant physiology, medicinal plants reproductive biology, tissue culture, and plant breeding flora of region.

Significant Achievement of the Department : Mr.Hariprasad a student of the department has won two gold medals and a cash prize for securing highest marks in CBZ during the year 2004-05. The HOD has obtained M.Phil degree during the year 2008.
